Hiking

Puerta Verde is one of the many hiking trails surrounding Torrox and its surroundings.

Sendero El Saltillo is a new hiking trail in the province of Malaga, featuring a spectacular suspension bridge spanning over 50 meters in length. Information: www.wandeleninandalusie.nl

Rio Chillar near Nerja. This route follows and goes through the river or río Chillar.
Rio Verde in Otivar in the province of Granada is an absolute must. Daredevils can do canyoning here. The hike involves walking partly through water, scrambling over rocks, climbing steep and crumbly paths uphill and downhill.

Cities

Malaga: Malaga is a modern city with a beautiful harbor where you can enjoy delightful lunches or dinners. Also, visit the Picasso Museum or the fortress from where you can overlook the city. Guided bike tours are also available.

Granada: Granada is definitely worth a visit. It has recently been declared the most beautiful city in Spain. The magnificent Alhambra is a must-visit. (make sure to reserve your tickets well in advance)

Villages in the vicinity

Torrox: is known for its mild climate and is also known as the place “of eternal spring”. The climate is subtropical-Mediterranean. Because of this, Torrox has the title: “best climate in Europe”. On the cozy village square, you will find some bars, restaurants, and shops.

Frigiliana: is one of the most beautiful villages in La Axarquia. Barribarto, the old town, invites you to stroll through the streets with whitewashed walls adorned with flower pots, while you discover stairs, passageways, and hidden courtyards. Frigiliana still has remnants of a castle from the 9th century.

Nerja: with a fishing and agricultural tradition, Nerja not only has the nostalgic Blue Summer Park and the Barco de Chanquete but also other areas overlooking the sea, such as the famous “Balcon de Europa”, which offers views of sandy beaches and cliffs plunging into the Mediterranean Sea. Other attractions include the Nerja Caves.

Cómpeta: this charming white village has been known as the pearl of the Axarquia region for years. Cómpeta is situated at over 700 meters altitude, providing spectacular views. Cozy streets with beautiful views towards the Mediterranean Sea.

Torrox:
Every Monday is market day in Torrox. With various types of markets spread throughout the municipality: Times 09.00 – 14.00.
Market on Avenida Esperanto, in El Morche.
Torrox-Pueble, Calle Almedina
Torrox-Costa, the Cooperativa Sra. de la Nieve a large market.
Every Wednesday there is a market in Torrox Park, El Pino. This lasts from 10.00 in the morning until 14.00 in the afternoon.

Nerja:
There is a large goods market on Tuesday morning (from 08.00 to approximately 14.00) in Nerja-West at the Avda. Constitución.

Frigiliana:
Weekly Thursday goods market on the central square in the heart of the beautiful white mountain village, next to the roundabout in the center. From 09.00 to approximately 14.00.

Torre del Mar:
Every Thursday there is a goods market in the coastal town of Torre del Mar. The market has about 190 market stalls and lasts from approximately 09.00 to 14.00. Every second Saturday of the month, there is an extensive flea market in Torre del Mar.

Nerja: In the cozy streets of Nerja, there are plenty of shops and nice restaurants.

Malaga: In the enormous Plaza Mayor, many types of shops, restaurants, and recreational areas come together in a true “shopping city”. Everything you need, you’ll find in Plaza Mayor. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants in the city of Malaga, of course.

Torre del Mar: The enormous shopping center El Ingenio, There are two floors with a total of 114 shops, a cinema with 12 halls, various restaurants, and a supermarket (Eroski).
